How to Style the Tennis Trend

The tennis skirt is back on-trend, and this time they’ve brought the whole pitch with them. I loved the tennis skirt trend a few years back, and I’m super happy I held onto mine. The sports-inspired garment is an easy to style summer staple. Whether you’re going for an all-out sporty look or something more in line with your personal style, here are a few tips and tricks on how to nail SS20s must-have trend.

Nothing nails the tennis trend more than an all white outfit. If you want to look like you’ve just stepped off the pitch, racket in hand, this is the look to go for. Pair a crisp white tennis skirt, a white t-shirt or sports bra, and a pair of white sneakers, and you’re ready to hit the pitch.

If you’re a fan of the tennis trend, but want to dial down those sporty spice vibes just a smidge, opt for a slightly more casual look with a baggy tee and jumper. I’ve gone for a graphic t-shirt and thrown a black hoodie over the top with my beloved Charlotte Olympia Puma’s; achieving wearable day-to-day look that stays true to its sporty roots.

Although a black or white outfit is going to be the most seamless pitch to patio look, if you’re looking for a less sporty style, or you want something a bit brighter and bolder; colour is key. You can get tennis skirts in every colour under the sun, whatever your aesthetic, there’s a tennis skirt to match. I’ve seen people rocking pale pastels, going head-to-toe black for a nineties grunge-inspired look, or simply just opting for a brighter t-shirt for contrast. I love the look of a pink cami with a white tennis skirt, or an oversized brightly coloured shirt over the shoulders.

If your style is more of an eclectic mix, or you love throwing multiple trends together, the tennis skirt is your perfect piece. Style it up with a pair of chunky Dr Martens, throw on a strappy back sandal, or grab your best granny chic cardigan; tailor the tennis skirt to your style. Tennis skirts are an easy to style, versatile piece, and it’s difficult to go wrong with them.

Alternatives to the tennis skirt can be a slightly more unique way to nail a trend we’re seeing all-over our Insta feeds at the moment. I’ve come across some super cute tennis-inspired mini dresses that stay true to the trend. You can stay comfy and wear a pair of biker shorts with an oversized sports tee. Or opt for accessories with a visor and some sports socks.
